My wife and I visit Trefin everey six months from Bermuda. The Sloop is our first destination on arrival . The food is exzcllent , service terrific , and the only complaint is that so many people think the same. Too many times packed out !
As for the Doctor who complained about the quality of food - too bad. He must be the .01% who will complain about anything.
Well done The Sloop , keep up the good work - best pub in West Wales,
Andy and Jane Bermingham.

I've been trying to like this place for years. The staff and the manager are all very nice, but something is wrong in the kitchen. We went there for a christmas work do and even though there were vitually no customers apart from our 8 in the restaurant, the food was not good. The main faults seemed to be overcooking and overflavouring. The presentation was ok which ironically led to even greater disappointment upon tasting the food.
I can honestly state that I have not enjoyed a main course in this pub for around three years. I live locally and cannot understand why the place is so packed during the Summer months. Does the average Sloop customer know what good food is? Or does the customer come once never to return?

........ and when we got there for our second visit we weren't disappointed!
The food was delicious and plentiful and the service friendly and prompt.
This place has not been spoilt by its popularity.

Last summer (July 2004) we brought a party of young teenagers with special needs to The Sloop for an evening meal to celebrate the end of a successful Outward Bound course. In my experience society sometimes seems to find such people 'embarrassing' and hard to relate to, but the management, Morgan and his staff were very hospitable and made everyone feel very welcome: without patronising them, they made them feel that nothing was too much trouble - and on a busy Friday evening that's not bad going! We have booked to go again this summer with our next party and have so far received the same welcoming attitude.
